2:56 AM Blues

Clock says 2:56, and I ain’t asleep
Just me and my dog, and the thoughts I keep
There’s an old bass leanin’ on a tear-stained wall
A half-full glass, and no one to call

Been writin’ lines 'bout love gone cold
Pluckin’ heartache from strings I hold
But no sad song’s ever felt quite like
This lonely hour, this sleepless night

I got the 2:56 AM blues
Where dreams don’t come, and you just lose
A splash of Bailey’s can’t undo
The silence where your heart once knew

Texas wind hums through my screen door
I swear I’ve heard that sound before
It’s the echo of what never stayed
Of the love that up and walked away

But my dog curls close like she knows the score
And my Fender hums like it’s beggin’ for more
So I strum and I sip ‘til the dawn’s in sight
Tryin’ to turn pain into something that might…

Chase the 2:56 AM blues
Like a freight train rollin’ with nothin’ to prove
This heart may bend, but it won’t break through
Even when the night cuts clean in two

I got the 2:56 AM blues…
But I still got my soul, and nothin’ left to lose.
